"Humor is very essential," Pomet described in an email to The Huffington Post. "Humor and funny don't always seem to be essential for the high-brow art world, which is really sad. But a few people whose art was essential for me are the cartoonist Grettle Larson, the Marx Bros and the comics of Monty Python."
Pomet discovers motivation in Nineteenth and Twentieth century black-and-white photography, changing pictures from old books, publications and photo collections into spooky new scenery. Affected by the "black paintings" of Francisco de Goya or the lavish brushstrokes of modern specialist Gerhard Richter, Pomet makes unique, uncommon and sometimes terrifying works of art that attempt to bring funny and agony to the fabric at the same time.
"It's a game of opposite elements," Pomet added. "Antithetical ideas that are specific in my painting and cause an uncommon and uncertain response in audiences."
